Reflective Tape

Here is another of the many ideas of improving your being seen. It is an offshoot of something that I have done in another area of equipment. Use reflective tape on your boat itself.

I have reflective tape on most of my PFDs. Although there may be a legality issue with the Coast Guard in doing so (there's some question when adding anything to a PFD), it is certainly something to consider doing. Reflective tape on the back of a PFD and on its front panels, will make you more visible in low-light conditions in a rescue situation. Even on the water while paddling, you can generally count on the sun's rays to virtually light up your PFD.

Putting reflective tape on you foldable works in the same way. If you're in an accident and your boat is riding hull-side up, reflective tape may be all that makes your kayak visible since neither a grey or black bottom is likely to show up well, certainly not black, the color of most foldable hulls. You might even put some strips on some spots in the above water portion of your hull where it will make you a lot more noticeable.
